The term “accident” is defined by the federal regulations as “any expected or unintentional incident, which may result in injury or illness to a resident.” With respect to accident prevention, the federal regulations provide “the facility must ensure that the resident environment remains as free of accident hazards as possible; and each resident receives adequate supervision and assistance device to prevent accidents.”
